Zing!

I had the opportunity to collaborate with a reading coach this week and she introduced me to this amazing resource for leveled texts. It’s called Zing! You can sign up for a free account and have access to tons of leveled readers for your students. Once you have created your free account, go to browse by category and you can select the reading level. I love that teachers can search by guided reading level and find text appropriate for their varied levels of readers.

Once you find a text you like, you can add it to your library. To share with students requires a subscription, but you could have them work with this text on the Promethean Board or in a small group setting.

The program has some nice features, such as the highlighting tool to mark words that students had difficulty reading. You can also make notes in tabs on the side of the page as students are reading.

These books do not read aloud or come with their own questions, but you could use a tool such as Kahoot to ask questions after they read. You could also create questions on a Google Form that they could read and answer to check for comprehension. Or you can just have a discussion with a small group to check their comprehension.
