Soil Research

Third grade students in Ms. Taylor’s class at Tuckahoe Elementary, learned more about soil by doing some research. Before the lesson took place, the teacher and I discussed the TIPC and which area she wanted to focus on. Research was chosen so we lead the students through creating their own questions to guide their research and then gave them opportunities to use different research strategies to answer their questions. The students posted their questions on a Padlet so they could read each other’s questions. (Some students who asked the same questions, decided to work together to answer them!) We then talked about search engines and how to know if a website is trustworthy and appropriate. Students were then given time to try out different search engines to answer their questions. Once they found a good website they added it to their Padlet question to share with the rest of the class. Students continued to ask questions on the Padlet and will be given more time to research. Some of their favorite search engines are DuckDuckGo, Sweet Search, KidRex, and Kidoos
