First Grade Flash

December 4, 2017     Welcome!

We will continue our discussion of economics (goods, services, being a wise consumer, and wants & needs) this week.  We will be doing a lot of authentic activities to help these ideas come alive for the students.

In math, we are continuing to concentrate on number sense.  We will be working on recognizing numbers to 120 (in and out of order), comparing numbers, and place value (understanding the value of the digits in a number –5 tens and 2 ones makes 52). Students will gain a deeper understanding of the 120 chart — looking for patterns and understanding how to ‘navigate’ the chart to find 10 more, 10 less, one more, one less.

We continue to develop our reading skills each day!  Please listen to your child read each night –ask them to summarize the story and make sure they are understanding new vocabulary that they encounter.  Thanks for your continued support as we build strong readers!

We will be very busy this week and next week with many fun events!  We hope to see you stop in at our Winter Party on December 14th at 12:45 PM.  Please be on the look-out to sign up for items to donate or to come in and help with the party.  Be sure to mark your calendar!
