We have so many reasons to celebrate today…

  • Benchmark testing is DONE;
  • we ROCKED our Math benchmark test; AND
  • it’s FRIDAY!

I am so proud of the hard work and perserevance that each student displayed these past two days as we worked through the math benchmark. It was the longest assessment that we have taken to this date! We showed our work and thought through each problem and it all payed off. WAY TO GO!

Thank you to everyone that had the chance to come see me yesterday! It was great to see so many of you at Parent -Teacher conferences. If you didn’t have a chance to schedule yours yet, please email me and we can choose another date.

A LOOK INTO ROOM 8:

Reading- We dove into the world of poetry this week. We learned that poems use rhyming words, can tell a story, and have similar elements like characters, conflicts, settings, etc.  Students will practice reading these poems for fluency and also answer comprehension questions about what they’ve read. Writing- We continued our study of homophones this week. Students read and copied homophones found in books on Epic! We then took these special words and created a google slide to present them. You can check out this assignment on Schoology, which can be accessed through Clever.

Students reflected on their fall goals, considered what they are proud of,  and worked to write about the goals they would like to acheive for the remainder of the year in preparation for our parent/teacher conferences on Thursday. Each student was recorded to present their acheivements and goals. Head to this link to see our videos!

Math- This week was devoted to REVIEW, REVIEW, REVIEW! On Monday we had completed an escape room/breakout box activity to reveiw double digit computation with regrouping. Students worked in groups to solve two digit number sentences, then communicated their solutions with one another to agree on the answer. Once they came to the correct answer they were given a letter to solve our “Secret Code” which helped them figure out where the keys to our breakout box were located. When all the problems were solved and ALL the keys were located, students were rewarded with a sweet treat!

Social Studies- We began our Famous Americans unit and focused on Martin Luther King, Jr. and Abraham Lincoln. Here are some biographies if you want to check them out! Martin Luther King, Jr. Biography Abraham Lincoln Biography Next week we will learn about George Washington, Thurgood Marshall, George Washington Carver, Rosa Parks, and Jackie Robinson.

    Will you be sending home a class roster for us to use? Will they need to get a valentine’s box together?
