Glance at a Golden Week (9.25-9.29)

It’s hard to believe that we’re wrapping up our first month of school! I was excited to see you all at Back to School night this week! If you were unable to attend, you can head to this link for the presentation. Be sure to check your students folder for other important papers that went home that night as well.

Also, agendas were given out at Back to School night. Students will be given time to copy homework in the morning and afternoon. Please contact me if you did not receive an agenda and would like one.

In Reading, we explored character traits and the parts of a plot.

We read a very fun book titled The Plot Chickens that helped us explore and understand what makes up the plot of a story. While reading at home, ask your child to explain the exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, or resolution of their text.

We also reviewed how to summarize a text by using our SWBST (Somebody Wanted But So Then) strategy. After finishing a text students should be able to state in few sentence what the story was mainly about.

This week in Social Studies, we enjoyed working together in groups to create a tableau or living picture to show the seasons we experience in Henrico county. Students had fun creating props and freezing in place to demonstrate their season! Check out our work from start to finish!

We  started working on a couple writing projects this week! In stations, we discussed what it means to be a veteran and why these men and women may be considered American Heroes. We will continue working on these prompts in the next few weeks. Once finished, some of the best prompts will be chosen to be entered in to a writing contest!

Visit Ms. Capano’s blog for more information on what we did in math and  science this week!
