Setting – Time and place of events in the story
Protagonist – Main character
Antagonist – Character who opposes or fights with another
Exposition – the start of the story, the situation before the action starts
Character – person in a narrative work of art
Conflict – The problem
Climax – The high point of action in the story
Plot – Series of events in the story
Personification – A special kind of metaphor in which human characteristics are given to inanimate things
Simile – a figure of speech that expresses the resemblance of one thing to another of a different category, usually introduced by as or like
Metaphor -A comparison of unlike things without using like or as
Hyperbole – An extravagant statement or figure of speech not intended to be taken literally, as “to wait an eternity.”
Resolution – The problem is solved
Setting –  includes the historical moment in time and geographic location in which a story takes place, and helps initiate the main backdrop and mood for a story
Theme – Main thought of a story that will apply to other situations as well
Symbol – Visible object used as a sign of an abstract idea
