Coding the Layers of the Earth

Fifth grade students at Ridge and Tuckahoe used Scratch to show what they know about the layers of the Earth (SOL 5.7). First, the students went to Britannica Image Quest on Clever to download a picture of the layers of the Earth to use for their project. Once they found their picture, they clicked on it until it was full screen and then right+clicked to save the image on their desktop. The students then logged into their Scratch accounts and uploaded the image as their backdrop. They chose any sprite they wanted to give the tour of the layers of the Earth and began coding. They used a simple pattern of glide and say blocks and were able to be more creative after they showcased their information. Take a look at the finished project below.
