Richmond Zoo ThingLink

The first grade students in Mrs. Alves’s class had the opportunity to conduct first hand research at the Metro Richmond Zoo. It was such a valuable experience for the students to see the animals in their own habitat.

Once back at school, the students selected an animal from a list of the animals we saw at the zoo. They conducted research in the library using PebbleGo and trade books.

The students then used their research notes to write a script in first person. Next, they used PhotoSpeak on the iPads to bring a picture of their animal to life. They added eyes and a mouth so that the picture made the animal look like it was blinking and talking. They recorded their voice to explain where their animal lives, what it eats, how it moves, etc.

The finished videos were uploaded to Google Drive & linked to a ThingLink of a map of the Richmond Zoo. The spot on the map are placed in the area where the animals habitat is located at the zoo. The link that appears when you click on the spot links out the video from PhotoSpeak. Check it out!
