Symmetry in Google Drawing

Last week I hung out with Mrs. Regnary’s 2nd grade class at Carver Elementary. They have been working on Geometry concepts and wanted to practice with some symmetry shapes. We started by signing into our Google accounts and opening a blank Google Drawing.

We renamed our drawing and got to work! We briefly chatted about what it takes to make an object symmetrical and pointed out some symmetrical objects in their classroom. Then I showed the students how to change their background color, how to insert Word Art to make a title and lastly how to insert pictures from within Google. Since we had brainstormed various things that were symmetrical we already had ideas for things to search for!

Adding an image from within Google is super simple. All you need to do is select Insert-Image-Search. Then you can adjust your picture size. After the students had inserted 4-5 symmetrical pictures I showed them how to use the line tool to show the actual symmetry in each of their pictures. This was a super simple but totally worthwhile lesson! Check out some of their finished projects!
