Julie Smith, one of the amazing Elementary ITRTs in Henrico County, shared this lesson and the resources with me. She is AWESOME, you should definitely check her blog out!
I tried this lesson with a 3rd grade class at Kaechele Elementary School, and had a blast! I started the lesson out by sharing a QR code with them that took them to this template. The students saved the picture of the scientist and the three containers to their camera roll. Once the students had their image saved to their camera roll they opened it in Doodle Buddy. Doodle Buddy is a super simple app that can be used with any level student K-5! With this activity the students used the stamp tool in Doodle Buddy to represent the molecules in a solid, liquid, or gas. Next, the students used the drawing tool to draw arrows representing the movement of the molecules.
Once the students had their picture completed they saved their new picture to the camera roll and then opened it in FaceTalker. This app is similar to others like ChatterPix Kids, but it makes your face look like a puppet…the kids think that is HILARIOUS! The students used FaceTalker to explain the difference in molecules in a solid, liquid, and gas and then saved their video to the camera roll. Once their video was completed the sent it to me via the Google Work Collector.
