The students in Ms. Towns’s 4th grade class have been studying elapsed time. Today they were planning a dream vacation of their choice to anywhere they wanted to go. We went to Google Maps and set the starting destination as Trevvett Elementary and they chose a location of their choice for the end point.

Students then used the Snipping Tool to take a screen shot of their travel route. Next, they uploaded their picture to the class Padlet wall and wrote an elapsed time story to accompany their picture. Students could select any departure time they wanted, and Google Maps provided them with the travel time either by plane, bus, or car, so they had to solve for the arrival time. They had a great time with this activity and enjoyed the real-life application of the elapsed time skill.
