Osmo

The student’s in Mrs. Alves class have an Osmo and they really enjoyed learning how to play a few of the games. Osmo is a gaming set for the iPad that features a base and a mirror that clips over top of the camera so it can view what the students are doing on the desk. Today they explored the Numbers and Words games.

With words, students are playing an interactive hangman style game. They are provided with a picture and spaces that show how many letters make up the word. Using the red and blue letter tiles, students compete to solve the mystery word before the number of guesses runs out. Osmo keeps score for each team on the side of the screen in a number line format, so students can keep track of who is in the lead.

With numbers, students work their way from number sense to addition and eventually all the way up to multiplication. They can answer the problem on the screen by putting down number tiles on their desk. As they answer the questions correctly, the bubbles pop and more fish and accessories end up in their aquarium.
