Vascular & Non-Vascular Lab with ProScopes

The students at Montrose had a blast bringing their science vocabulary to life. They knew that vascular meant that it had tubes and non-vascular meant that it did not, but to actually view these tubes and see vascular tissue at work was such a valuable experience for these 5th grade students. With Judy Christopher’s support, the students were provided with carnations, moss, ferns, and celery that had been in a cup of red water. Using the ProScopes students were able to take magnified pictures of these plants and determine if they were vascular or non-vascular. All the students were completely engaged in this activity and couldn’t believe their eyes when they saw these plants up close! The ITRT’s have a class set of ProScopes, so just let us know if you want to give this a try in your classroom.
