Trevvett – 11/30

4th grade students in Mrs. Ballou’s science class were finishing up a project on severe storms. After conducting research collaboratively on a Google Doc, students used Tellagami on the iPads to record videos about their storms with a corresponding picture of the storm in the background. They used the SendAnywhere app on the iPad to send the video clips to the laptop. From there, they were able to piece the video clips together to form a single newscast teaching about the storm they researched.

The 5th Grade student’s in Mrs. Week’s class reviewed Reference Materials (atlas, dictionary, thesaurus, almanac, and encyclopedia) by using a Nearpod lesson created by Mrs. Hues. In the lesson the students watch an informational video, and then are provided with a link to practice using the tool. Students practiced with each of the reference materials and then took a quiz in Nearpod in which they had to determine which reference source would be best to use to find the information needed.

The 3rd Grade students in Mrs. Smith’s class have been working on finding the main idea in reading. To reinforce this skill, we used Elementary Newsela to read a non-fiction article. In Newsela, you can set the reading level appropriate for your students and select the type of questions you want to appear in the quiz. Mrs. Smith created an account at e.newsela.com, so her students just had to enter the class code in order to join. Once students were logged in, they were able to see the article that Mrs. Smith had assigned to the class.

After reading the article, students were able to take a quiz which featured questions focused on the main idea of the article. It is a great practice for the students because they get immediate results and are able to go back and review any questions that they missed. Mrs. Smith is excited to use this resource as a station activity during reading rotations.

2nd Grade students in Mr. Weldon’s class demonstrated their understanding of comparing numbers using the Greater Gator flipchart developed by Mrs. Hues. Students opened the flipchart, rolled 3 dice to make two, three-digit numbers, and then compared the numbers using the alligator images or equal sign. The alligator eats the larger number! Then the students used the sound recorder tool to read their mathematical sentence. After completing a few slides, the students saved the flipchart to their desktop and uploaded it to their teacher using the Google Drive Work Collector.

3rd Grade students in Mrs. Quattlebaum’s class created life cycles for a plant or animal of their choice. Using picture in stickers and their own drawings, they created life cycles. Then they recorded their voice on the Pixie slide to explain the cycle. When they were finished, they saved the life cycle to their desktop and uploaded it to their teacher and peers through Google Classroom.
