The 3rd Grade students in Mrs. Smith’s class have been working on finding the main idea in reading. To reinforce this skill, we used Elementary Newsela to read a non-fiction article. In Newsela, you can set the reading level appropriate for your students and select the type of questions you want to appear in the quiz. Mrs. Smith created an account at e.newsela.com, so her students just had to enter the class code in order to join. Once students were logged in, they were able to see the article that Mrs. Smith had assigned to the class.
After reading the article, students were able to take a quiz which featured questions focused on the main idea of the article. It is a great practice for the students because they get immediate results and are able to go back and review any questions that they missed. Mrs. Smith is excited to use this resource as a station activity during reading rotations.
