New Math on the Spot Episode!

The HCPS Elementary ITRT team has been hard at work connecting math standards to the real world.  We have a blog where everything is housed blogs.henrico.k12.va.us/mathspot and it’s going to start growing this year!  So far we only have two episodes finished, but we filmed our 3rd episode last week, so we have to get cracking on the editing.  MOTS Blog

We worked with the Elementary Math Specialist here in Henrico County to identify the weakest areas in math grades 3-5.  With that in mind, in addition to using the pacing guide, we are hoping to make a relevant resource for teachers throughout the county and teaching community.  Accompanying the videos we also have activities for the students to complete.  This is the perfect resource to use as a station, or even whole group!

The actors in the show, HCPS ITRTs, teleport to different places around the Richmond area through the powers of our amazing spot.  Everywhere we go there is math to be done, and it relates directly to world around us.  Our first episode worked on probability at Sweet Frog, our second episode hit elapsed time at the UCI International Bike Race that Richmond hosted earlier this year, and we just filmed our third episode focusing on arrays at Glen Allen High School with the HCPS Cupcake War champions!

Check out the blog, and share it around!  We are going to keep going and we are going to continue to add resources to the site so teachers everywhere can use Math on the Spot in their classroom!
