Text Features with Movie Maker

Student’s in Mrs. Spevak’s third grade class have been working hard to identify non-fiction text features. Today we collaborated to make short videos using Windows Movie Maker. This program is already installed on the Dell laptops.

The students started this project by accessing Mrs. Spevak’s classroom folder inside Server Shortcuts. In this folder I had placed some text features images I found on Primary Punch’s TeachersPayTeachers store. These were a free download! The students worked together to come up with brief descriptions about these features. We then launched Windows Movie Maker and imported our title slide, three text features we wanted in our movie and a credits image.

IMG_4670After the images were loaded into Movie Maker the students drug them to their storyboard, added transitions, and extended each clip so they would have a little more time to narrate. After they had their movie arranged the way they wanted it they switched from storyboard view to timeline view and used the “narrate timeline” feature to record themselves talking about their favorite text features.

Finally, the students published their videos to their desktop and shared them with me using my Google Work Collector! Check out a couple examples of their finished movies!
