We had a blast at Crestview smashing some great apps together! The students were learning about food chains so the teachers wanted to focus on important terms such as predator, prey, consumer, and producer. At Crestview we have enough iPads in the library and the classes to pair the students up to work on whole group activities.
I made a Comemories site using different examples of food chains. I made sure to use land and water food chains. The students scanned a QR code to take them to the site. As a group the students had to select two food chains to work with. They saved the pictures of the food chains to the camera roll on the iPad.
Once they had selected their food chains the students selected their food chains they opened the photos one at a time in the app Skitch. This is a great app to use to label pictures. It’s super easy and makes the pictures look great. They labeled one food chain with the terms consumer and producer and saved it to the camera roll. Once the first picture was saved the students labeled the second picture with producer and consumer.
After the students had both pictures labeled they opened up the Shadow Puppet Edu app. The students used this app to explain why they labeled each plant or animal in their food chain a producer, consumer, predator, or prey. They did an awesome job!
