I always get excited when Mrs. Gregory signs up for a lesson with me. Her students have really jumped in head first with the new technology this year. The first grade teachers will really benefit from her hard work this year. Mrs. Gregory invited me in and requested that we work on subtraction word problems. Her students enjoy Pixie so for this lesson we created our subtraction stories in Pixie. The students started by choosing a sticker that they would use for their story. They learned to use the copy and paste buttons so that they could duplicate their sticker. After their stickers were in place they used the paint feature to add some details to make their subtraction stories come to life. We then duplicated our entire Pixie slide two times to make the three steps for our subtraction problem. On our second slide we used the X stamp to mark out the stickers we would be subtracting and on the third slide we deleted the stickers we had X’d out. We then recorded our voices as we told our subtraction stories. We exported our files as a video and I smashed them all together as one class movie! Check out their finished product!
