3rd Grade Soil App Smash

Today in Mrs. Bagley’s 3rd grade class at Kaechele we had a great time doing an app smash covering soil!  The students have been learning about the different layers and their characteristics so this was a great way to put their knowledge into action!  To make our final project we used a total of 3 different apps on the iPads.

The students first opened up the app DoodleBuddy.  This is a great app that is simple for anyone to create pictures with.  Students, and even some teachers, especially love it because one of the tools you can draw with is GLITTER!  The students drew a picture of the different layers of soil using this app and then saved it to the camera roll.  If the students held the iPad in landscape mode they had to rotate it before the next step.

Once the students had their picture beautifully drawn they opened Skitch.  Skitch is a super cool app that can be used in a ton of different ways, but today we used it to label our soil picture.  The students labeled the different layers of soil and saved their new labeled picture to the camera roll to get ready for the last step.

To really show off what they know the students used the app Shadow Puppet to record their voices.  They pulled the picture into the app then explained the differences between each layer of soil.  The students did a great job of explaining what makes each layer unique.

They really did a fantastic job!
