Animal Research with ZooAtlanta

Today Mrs. Taylor’s 1st grade class wanted to explore their animal unit more in depth. Students were put into small groups and assigned an animal they were to learn and report facts about using the augmented reality app, ZooAtlanta. The kids scanned the ZooAtlanta trigger image that you can find {HERE} and their animal came to life in 3D animated form. My favorite part of the app is the “info” button that will read a small nonfiction paragraph telling facts about the animal. We originally wanted the kids to use the “Video” feature to record themselves telling a fact they learned about their animal (you can see my example {HERE}); however, the audio was acting FUNKY. So we quickly adapted the lesson and had the students take a picture of their group with their animal and upload the photo to Educreations. They were asked to type one sentence about their animal (something we will continue to work on) and record themselves reading the sentence aloud and while adding any extra factual tidbits. Mrs. Taylor’s class did an incredible job! Check out their work:
