When we switched so many things this year saving student work was one of the things that we knew would be tricky. The students have something called Desktop Sync on their computers, but we have seen that this doesn’t always work. Google is the best option to save work for sure, but what about for younger students and even some older students. If there was an easy way for the students save their work, or better yet turn it in to their teacher, that would be amazing! Luckily I work with some brilliant people! Michael Price, an elementary ITRT, made a script that allows students to send work directly to their teacher’s Google Drive by simply uploading it from a website. The great thing is that the site can be easily bookmarked or accessed by a QR code from the iPads.
Mrs. Jones, a first grade teacher at Mehfoud Elementary, was excited to try out the Google Work Collector with me. She was wondering how to save the students’ work, and even an easy way to print. This solved both of these questions! After the students completed a Pixie slide depicting past, present and future they used the work collector to turn in their work. I dropped the link to my Google Work Collector in the Student Sever so they could easily access the link. Once the students finished their slide they went to the site with no problem, typed in their name, navigated to find their work that we saved to the desktop, and then clicked upload. All of the work was seamlessly sent to my Google Drive!
I’m discussing with principals when the best time is to present this to all of my schools. I can’t wait to walk all of my teachers through the process of setting this up and using it!
