QR Code Globes-Echo Lake

Mrs. Koontz’s class at Echo Lake Elementary School have been working hard these past few weeks on their Maps and Globes unit! Students have been mastering the seven continents, five oceans and various features found on a map. Two weeks ago I discovered Mrs. Koontz’s students making and labeling paper mache globes. My mind began to race and I started to brainstorm ideas for how they could bring in some technology to this project. I remembered Julie Smith’s Back to School Project where students recorded themselves, tagged their audio to a QR code and attached the code to an image of themselves. Mrs. Koontz and I LOVED this idea so we decided to dive right in. Mrs. Koontz and her students wrote their scripts and practiced building their fluency for a few days. Then I came in and we recorded their scripts using Vocaroo. Vocaroo has an awesome feature where you can send your audio straight to a QR generator. The students then attached their QR code to their image and Mrs. Koontz laminated them and placed them in various places throughout the school. Students were then able to search the halls for their classmates and scan each QR code. They could listen to their classmates describe the seven continents, five oceans and what continent they would like to travel to someday. Awesome job Mrs. Koontz’s 2nd grade students!
