Need some new open ended apps for your students to use across content areas? I experimented with two apps this week and was very pleased with the students’ work. First, a very easy to use presentation app that you should consider using at your iPad station is Haiku Deck. If you are familiar with the haikudeck.com website, then you will know all about this app without using it. If you are not familiar with haikudeck.com, have no fear! It is super easy to use. I worked with two super speller 1st graders this week who were studying words with “vowel buddies” and needed an extra challenge. Check out their creations:
Haiku Deck could be used with any content area. It is just a simplified Keynote/Powerpoint tool that you can use on the iPad with younger children (older children love it too!) Here is a quick video tutorial (Note: When I used the app in school the other day we had to do an image search outside of the app and save the images to the camera roll. The image search provided within the app was not pulling up free images.):

Another pretty cool and even easier app you can use in your classroom across content areas is Sticky Notes. Students can create “sticky notes” that I call “posters” with vocabulary terms and visuals. This week I used this in a 1st grade class as word study support. Check out this Short O sticky note:
