JG and the Boys are back! Yesterday, the gang traveled to Arthur Ashe Elementary to teach the 4th graders about different social media platforms and integrated them with their African American Achievers they have been researching.
During the first part of the lesson, we talked about “What is Social Media?” We broke the students up into four groups. Each group used a different online collaboration tool to discuss their thoughts about Social Media. Some of the questions the students considered included: Why do people use it? Is social media important? What words, programs, or apps do you think of when you hear the words Social Media? The collaboration tools the students had to choose from were Padlet, Todays Meet, Google Drawing, and a Google Doc.
For the next part of the lesson, the students split up into their Social Media groups. The four Social Media Templates the students were able to use were a Facebook Pages Document, an Instagram ActivInspire Flipchart, a Pinterest Pages Document, and a Twitter ActivInspire Flipchart. After completing their projects, we shared and discussed. To wrap up the lesson, the students filled out a Social Media Lesson Survey to provide feedback on the lesson.
