Collaborative Language Arts and Math Lesson

Today the kindergarten students became detectives as they learned about numbers 1-12 and reviewed their positional words in language arts. First, Mrs. Mawyer read I Spy Spooky Night, which got the detectives in the mode of trying to find objects! The detectives followed this reading activity with taking their pictures on padlet.com (word wall). The detectives will use this Padlet during our second lesson to post pictures taken with the iPads of objects around the school that correlate with their group’s number. For example, a group of 5 students, 5 trees outside, 5 lunch trays, 5 squares, and etc. They will also have “cool” detective hats and glasses for this activity like every detective should!!! After creating this Padlet, we put the detectives on Pixie as they carefully determined what numbers correlated with the objects in the picture. We also used positional word flashcards to help us describe our final products! For example, “The number 10 is above number 7 and below the clouds.” For our follow up lesson, the detectives will actually create their own picture and collaborate with another kindergarten class as they determine what number correlates with the objects!!! So much FUN in Kindergarten with Mrs. Mawyer and Mrs. Keagy!!!
