From Africa to Rome to Richmond

Lexi1

Lexi Pasternak has had opportunities to visit far-away places and bring them directly to the students at Ridge Elementary via blogging, GooglePresentation, iMovie and Skype. In the fall Lexi visited Africa. She Skyped and blogged with the class from Africa while on safari. We had just completed our unit on ecosystems and she really brought the African Savannah to life! She also shared information on the ocean habitat of South Africa where penguins live! Her Skype sessions with the class were very informative, full of facts. Lexi has the gift of gab and was really able to paint a true picture of her experience for the class! On her return, she created a wonderful iMovie of pictures and footage from the trip. She shared this at Technology Night and also with groups around our school. She is scheduled to share again as SOL Science review at various grade levels!
In March, Lexi also traveled to Rome where she visited the Colosseum, the Pantheon, the Catacombs, the Vatican City just before it closed for the Conclave and the Trevi Fountain. She shared first-hand details about these places with our class through Skype and a GooglePresentation that we spontaneously opened while she was there. We even involved her first grade brother and his class when we realized how well this mode of communication works! On her return, she shared additional information and will be involved with SOL review activities/slide show and other appropriate activities to support our success.
