Today, I had the opportunity to present on Augmented Reality in Education at the University of Mary Washington for an EdTech Conference. Over the past few months, since going to the VSTE Conference in VA Beach, I have been researching different apps that use some form of Augmented Reality. In my brief research, I have found that many of the AR apps that are out there are good at what they are made for. The problem I see with them is that they are one note apps. Some of them you can branch out and do a few more things if you pay for the apps instead of using the free version, but you are still limited to the information they have built in to their system. My presentation went through these apps and then ultimately ended with talking about the Augmented Reality app, Aurasma, that is fully customizable and not bound by the one note features the other apps seem to have. Now, I’m not saying the other apps discussed are bad apps. That being said, many of them would require a little out of the box thinking to use them effectively in the classroom, and the use of the Aurasma App is only bound by your imagination. I have already written two posts on Aurasma: Post One and Post Two. Because of this I won’t go into all the details, so here are the links to the EdTech Wiki, my prezi from today’s “prezi,” and a list of the Apps I talked about today.
