Kindergarten Research

One thing that kindergartners need to do is demonstrate comprehension of nonfiction text. Since we are in October, Mrs. Gregory’s class decided to research spiders!

To research spiders, the students looked through picture books of spiders, and within their groups, they had to discuss the different observations they saw in different spiders. After this, the group of students used the iPads and went on a QR Scavenger Hunt around the room scanning QR Codes. Each of the QR Codes brought up a different picture of a spider. Together, the groups discussed the different features they observed for each of the spider QR Code pictures. After all the groups observed all the QR Codes, Mrs. Gregory had the whole class sit together in their small groups, and they discussed all the features of spiders they researched. While they talked, they filled out a fun Spider Graphic Organizer together on chart paper.

After all the research and collaboration was complete, the students got their computer from the COW and logged into Pixie. Each student created their own spider scene showing it’s habitat, different characteristics of it’s body, and a type of food it eats. We had a lot of fun with this project today. Enjoy the pictures from today’s lesson!

The slide show was made using animoto.com.  If you would like to make your own slideshows for your blog or to have your students make a slide show presentation, I would be glad to show you how.  You can also click here to download the directions for how to use Animoto as well.
