Pixie Food Chain Movies

Ms. Catlin’s class is in the middle of the Animals Unit. One thing third graders need to learn about are food chains. Ms. Catlin did an awesome job integrating her lesson on food chains using Pixie.  The students used this program to make stop animation videos to show a food chain.  The students made a scene with their first animal in the food chain.  They saved the picture to their folder with the file name, foodchain1.  Next, they moved the animal a little bit, and then saved that file as foodchain2.  They continued to do this until they went through the entire food chain.  Using the Share and Presentation features in Pixie, the students made a slide show that plays by itself and looks like a movie.

This is a really fun activity that can be done with any unit you may be teaching.  If you would like to try this in your class, sign up for a time to meet with me, and we can make it happen!  Here are a few examples from Ms. Catlin’s class.  The third one is really short, but I enjoyed the creativity!  Enjoy!
