The second grade students in Mrs. Brinkman’s class had a problem. They learned about maps last week, including the US Geography, and several students were absent. They had to solve the problem and create a way to show the absent students what they missed. They first chose a partner and planned how they were going to help the students who missed the lessons. Maps could be created using Pixie, Map Maker 2.0 or using a poster. The class also had to decide what parts were important to include on the map so they created a checklist and a rubric and practiced assessing a map the teacher created. After the lesson, the teacher allowed some time for a class discussion. They talked about the pros and cons of using Pixie and Map Maker 2.0 and which one they plan to use when they study maps in the future.
