First Grade Flash
November 6, 2017 Welcome!

We have had so much fun learning about ANIMALS! We learned about
animal coverings, the various habitats, how they move differently, what
they give us, how they prepare for cooler weather, and the differences
between wild and tame animals. Next week, we will learn about Patriotic
Symbols – the flag, bald eagle, Statue of Liberty, and the Washington
Monument.

We have completed our unit on graphs and will move onto number sense.
We will develop our understanding of what numbers mean, see relationships
with numbers, and will be able to use this understanding in real world
experiences.

Fun Game to Build Number Sense at Home
Guess My Number (use a hundreds chart or a number line)
To play, ask one player to choose a number. Choose numbers that your child is
comfortable with. This number remains secret until someone guesses it. To start, have one player at a time take turns narrowing the range until one is able to guess the number! Questions might include: Is it greater than fifty? Is it an even number? Is it less than eighty? Is it more than twenty? The range of numbers should narrow each time until someone guesses the actual number.

Important Dates
November 6 & 7 – Fall Conferences
