  1. I can’t tell you how amazing the Center for Education and Human Development is. Being in the Glen Allen Center offers a lot of super interesting classes like Child Growth, Psychology, and more. Not only that but the teachers in the center are spectacular. Lectures are pretty much non-existent in the center because of the engaging activities each individual teacher gives you. Aside from the center, the Glen Allen HS atmosphere is incredible. Everybody, and I mean everybody, is super excited for every home football, basketball, volleyball, and every other sports team’s games. Not only that but Glen Allen is most definitely the nicest, cleanest, most modern school in Henrico County. Every single room has a Promethean Board for enhanced learning, and it really helps. The last, best aspect of Glen Allen is Battle of the Classes. This is a competition between the freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors. To earn “battle points” you must attend sports games, participate in school activities, and much more. Near the end of the year there is Battle Night, a huge pep rally type event full of games, dances, and awards. I can’t tell you guys how much I enjoy Glen Allen HS and I really hope you guys come check it out!

  2. Hey 8th Graders! Just to start out, I would like to say that I absolutely love the curriculum at the Center for Education and Human Development! It is extremely interactive and I look forward to each of the classes that you take within the center! (English, History, and your elective) As pretty much all of the other comments have said, Glen Allen is most definitely not a “teacher center”. We take so many different classes on different topics you can practically go into any field that you want! Freshman year, in the center you will take History, English, and Child Growth and Development. History and English are both great! Your history teacher as 9th graders will be Mr. Conway, who is also the Center Director, so that is really nice when you are first transitioning into high school. Child Growth and Development will be your “elective” and it is such a cool class! Even though I have only been in the center for 9(ish) weeks now, I would say it is one of my favorite classes. So far, we have learned about the brain, the endocrine and nervous system, and about different psychologists and their theories about human development. Trust me, its not scary at all! Also, the teachers here are amazing. They completely understand what you are going through as freshman, and they are here to help you. One thing that I love is that in the center classes, I know I won’t be lectured at for 90 minutes. We do so many cool activities with each other its amazing! Besides the actual center, Glen Allen is such an great school. There are so many different clubs and sports to get involved with and one of the really cool things that Glen Allen does is Battle of the Classes. This is when each of the four grade levels compete in different activities, it is so fun! Well, this is just a brief summary about Glen Allen, and if you want more information, ask Mrs. Chandler for my email and I will definitely send you more! Also, I will be at the open house on December 1st, so try to find me and I definitely would love to talk to you! (My name is Becca:)!) Enjoy 8th grade year, it goes by so fast!!!

  3. Glen Allen is a great specialty center (just like every other center) and well prepares its students for the challenges college may possess. However, one misconception is that this is the “teacher center”, which is incorrect. In your senior year you get to “shadow” any business professional of your choice in any career to get hands-on experience for the field of work you plan to apply to. Most of these “shadows” choose professionals who are doctors, lawyers, politicians and numerous others. But overall, a great program and would recommend you come here

  4. Choosing to go to Glen
Allen was pretty easy to me. I had applied to Freeman also and didn’t get in so Glen Allen was my only choice. Even though this was the case, I’m so glad I’m at Glen Allen! The specialty center is amazing! Now some of you might be thinking, “It’s only for teachers.” Actually, it really isn’t! This center is for anybody wishing to be anything! So far this year has been very fun and cannot wait for more. I wish you all the best in applying and making your high school decisions! Come to Glen Allen!!

  5. One more thing- regardless of what high school you decide to attend, GET INVOLVED! I am in the marching band at GAHS, and while it is huge commitment, I have made soooo many friends, in the Center and out. There are literally over 15 clubs and every sport that you could want to join at Glen Allen, and whatever you do join at least one! And if there isn’t a club or sport that you want, Glen Allen welcomes and supports you starting it! Getting involved can help you to meet new people and teachers and spent time doing things that you love! Overall, if there was one thing that was the most important for high school, it would be to get involved! 🙂

  6. Hey 8th graders! Glen Allen is an amazing center to go to! First though, we want to clear up a common misconception- Glen Allen is not the “teacher” center! At least half, if not more, of the Center students don’t have any intention of becoming teachers! It is really just English and Social Studies based (though depending on your course selection, you can add more math and science classes!) that has a psychological core. Do not think that it is only for future teachers or psychologists!!!!
The teachers are incredible and really care about you, both as a student and as a person. They teach the topics in interesting ways, with hands on activities, fun projects, and lots group work. The students are unbelievable as well; every student is so nice and welcoming that it is really easy to make new friends. Since few people know more than one person in the Center, everyone is ready to new Center friends. But only your English, Social Studies, and whichever Center class (9th grade it’s Child Growth and Development) are in the Center. Your electives, science, math, and homeroom class are not in the Center, and while you may see a lot of familiar faces, you still get to spend time and meet new friends with people zoned to Glen Allen. Glen Allen’s Center gives you everything you would want from a high school experience as well as an amazing experience in the Center. I would definitely recommend applying to Glen Allen! Good luck!

  7. Glen Allen is honestly an amazing school to go to, and not just because it’s the newest school. The center is really amazing, as are all of the teachers there. They don’t just stand around and lecture us for 90 minutes; they really teach and try to help us understand. Each teacher uses different methods to get to the same place. And even though everyone thinks the Center for Education and Human Development is a “teacher center”, it really isn’t. You can go there if you’re interested in psychology, or growth and development, or any of the different aspects. It’s not just about education, and honestly I think the education part is more learning about the actual learning process than learning about education. But overall it’s a really great school, and everyone really feels like my second family there 🙂 I love it, and I know it might not be right for some people, but it’s perfect for me. It’s English and History based, too. And Moody prepares you for the coursework/homework/tests, too!
