  2. Club SciKidz http://www.ClubSciKidzRVA.com
Club SciKidz is a place where Science and Technology Connect! Imagine a day camp that is designed to offer children a choice of many different science and technology themes. Themes include experiments and projects in Video Game Creation, Coding, Robotics, Veterinary Medicine, Crime Scene Investigation, Culinary Science, Paleontology, Engineering, Space, Biology, Chemistry, Oceanography, LEGO Robotics and much more. Camps inspire interest in science, technology and nature by involving children in the creation of a multitude of take-away projects in each camp. For specific camps we have “Pro visits” where Professionals from respective fields connects the summer campers with the real life experience. The whole idea is to expose children early on with different career pathways in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. Every Friday, there is “Family Day” where kids present their week long projects to family and friends that helps to build confidence and public speaking. The camps provide hands-on, minds-on activities for children ages 4-15. Camp Hours: Mon-Fri, 9am-4pm. Half day 9am-1pm only for 4-5 age group. Pre camp starts at 8 am and post camp ends at 5:30 pm.

  3. Ethan has been to the Concordia Language Villages camp in Minnesota for the last two years and absolutely loves it and will be going back again for a third year. It’s not cheap, especially considering the flight, but they do have scholarships available.

This camp has been around 40+ years and is a total immersion camp in the target language. Ethan goes to the Italian camp and it has done amazing things for his fluency. They have a total of 15 different world language camps. For a kid who is really into learning a language, this camp is amazing. I’d be happy to speak to anyone who has questions about the camp.

  4. To the extent we would do a camp again, we would focus on those that connect them with the outdoors/nature. The YMCA offers Camp Thunderbird and some of the YMCA’s in the Chesapeake area have camps that are on the water and involve sleep-aways. The first sleep away camp my kids did was a game-changer for them in the best way possible – they discovered they can survive without me. The YMCA is a great option because it is inexpensive even as non-members and usually well run. In the past, we also enjoyed the day-camps offered by VMFA. Peak Experiences also offers some fabulous camps that get the kids outside and learning how to climb, repel, etc.
