Glance at a Golden Week 1.20-1.24

Bitmoji ImageWe’re excited to welcome Ms. Alexa Circeo (Sir-cee-o) to our classroom this week!Ms. Circeo is joining us from ODU and will be completing her student teaching placement until May 1st. We have enjoyed getting to know her and can’t wait for all of the fun we will experience with her over the next 13 weeks!

A LOOK INTO ROOM 8:

Reading- We began our week reviewing, preparing, and gearing up to show what we know for our very FIRST semester benchmark. I am proud of the perseverance displayed from everyone during these last two days! Keep up the great work as we prepare for our Math semester benchmark test the week of February 3rd.Writing- In preparation for our Reading benchmark test, we reviewed the difference between synonyms (words with similar/same meanings) and antonyms (words with opposite meanings). Students also learned how contractions are made. We practiced using contractions in our writing and searched for them as we read new texts.

Math- Hooray!!! We have mastered double digit addition with regrouping! This week students successfully showed how to solve these problems with AND without regrouping. We continued to practice solving double digit subtraction problems and work through the steps neccessary to solve these problems. Please continue to practice this skill at home to reinforce what we have learned this week.  Two- Digit Subtraction Review Video Borrowing Mountain Baseball Regrouping Science- We wrapped up our unit on plant and animal adaptations by exploring camouflage, migration, and hibernation with experiments! Students had to camouflaged a paper butterfly with other objects in the room (be on the lookout for these in student’s folders), discovered the difficultly birds would face with finding food in the “snow” if they didn’t migrate, and how the extra fat that animals store help them during hibernation. A GLANCE INTO NEXT WEEK:
