Happy Friday Families! We had a very productive and busy week, even with the excitement in the air for the upcoming break and holidays! We enjoyed many festivities during our Winter Break Pep Assembly! We raced, we ate donuts, and we danced until we couldn’t dance anymore. The students enjoyed the Winter Party very much. Thank you to everyone who sent in items and helped out in the classroom!

A GLANCE INTO OUR 1ST WEEK IN 2020:

Reading- Questioning will be our next skill focus area. Students will be focusing on using the text to support asking and answering questions about what is read. An important strategy we push is going back to the text to locate an answer, and highlighting or underlining the proof in the text.

Phonics Focus- Spelling words focus on r-controlled long vowel patterns: care, dare, scare, glare, share, chair, air, hair, pair, stairs

Math- Students will estimate sums and differences, create and solve single and two-step word problems involving addition and subtraction with regrouping. This concept tends to be difficult for many 2nd graders, please consider having your child practice extra at home using any of these sites:  2 digit addition  2 digit subtraction Number Concepts, Addition, Subtraction and Graphing Practice

Social Studies- Our unit on Native Americans continues with the Lakota and Pueblo tribes. Please have your child focus on these two tribes on the study guide.
