Glance at a Golden week

Good Afternoon families! We made it through our first HATs Test! I am so proud of how hard everyone worked this week to do their best. I saw a lot of  reading, thinking, and proving! Let’s keep up this great momentum into next week for our Reading HAT test on Thursday, May 25 and Friday, May 26!

We are gearing up to put our Extraordinary Mary’s Good Deed into effect. As a school, we selected to make Tiger Hug bags to donate to those in need. As a classroom, we decided that we would like to donate Chapstick, travel size lotion, travel size baby wipes, travel size tissues, and travel size toothbrush/toothpaste. Children randomly selected one of the following items to bring in. These items will be put together on Deed Day on the last week of school.

The Field Day Volunteer Form went home in your child’s folder earlier this week! If you can help us out, or plan to come eat lunch with your child, PLEASE fill this out and return by Thursday, June 1st. Field Day is scheduled for Monday, June 12th. 2nd grade students should wear YELLOW shirts.

Academically Next Week:

  • Reading– We are reviewing reading fiction and non-fiction, as well as vowel sounds, antonyms, synonyms, prefixes, and contractions in preparation for the Reading HAT Test, taking place on May 25 and May 26 (Thursday and Friday)
  • No official word study next week as we complete HAT testing and continue with PALS testing.
  • Math – We move into practicing 3 digit addition and subtraction to use our computation skills and place value knowledge.
  • PALS Testing – This individual test is being given to assess the growth your child has made in sight word recognition, spelling knowledge, and reading. Scores will be shared in June.
  • Social Studies – We’re working on filming our Public Service Announcement for our community service project Tiger Hug bag.

Have a lovely weekend! As always, contact me with any questions, concerns, or updates!

Mrs. Golden
