Summary

This project allows students to research a variety of arctic animals in their habitats. They will learn how animals survive through research on body coverings, food, and special animal features. Students will apply their knowledge by creating a presentation using different forms of technology.

Rating: Approaching – Explanation: This lesson falls under the Approaching range. After teacher modeling, students helped to create questions and ideas to guide their research to answer the essential question: How do arctic animals survive in their habitats? The students conducted the research phase using sources from One Search, books. Students compiled their findings in a research journal.

Communication & Collaboration

Rating: Developing – Explanation: This lesson falls under the Developing range. Teacher organized student groups but allowed each group to choose an animal to study. Students worked together under teacher supervision to conduct research on their topic using different apps. Discussions were held to help students choose the important information.

Critical Thinking & Problem Solving

Rating: Developing – Explanation: This lesson falls under the Developing range. The teacher guided each group through their research using 2-3 different apps that allowed the students to listen to facts about their animal. Based on the information, student groups discussed important facts. Students wrote facts into their research journal.

Creativity & Innovation

Rating: Approaching – Explanation: The lesson falls in the Approaching range. Students took what they learned throughout the research portion to develop a creative way in using technology to present their findings, specifically how their animal survives in its habitat.
