Lesson Summary

First, we discussed the parts of a flower and what each part did. The students then filled out a study guide identifying the parts of the flower and what they did. On day 2, the students dissected a lily, took pictures and then created an iBook using the Book Creator app identifying the parts of the flower as well as its functions. On day 3, the students watched a short video on pollination. They then had to do a STEM activity where they had to create their own hand pollinators and test them.

TIPC Ratings

Research & Information Fluency

Rating:Ideal – Explanation: Students are in charge of their learning and piecing together information to make an end project, the hand pollinator. In order to be successful, the students will need to know the parts of the flower, how they work and the pollination process.

Communication & Collaboration

Rating: Ideal – Explanation: Students are working together to dissect a lily. Each group is discussing the parts and assisting each other on their iBooks. Each group then works together to choose materials and design a hand pollinator and then create the hand pollinator. They test the pollinator and decide how they can make the design more effective

Critical Thinking & Problem Solving

Rating: Ideal – Explanation: Students are pulling together their knowledge of the parts and functions of the flower as well as solving a real-world problem by becoming an agricultural engineer.

Creativity & Innovation

Rating: Ideal – Explanation: Students are pulling together their knowledge of the parts and functions of the flower as well as solving a real-world problem by becoming an agricultural engineer. Students have to test their product and then reflect on how to improve their product.
