Regions of Virginia Thinglink

Summary

After identifying the five regions of Virginia and learning about their historical importance, students needed to shift their thinking to what made each location unique. Students developed questions about each region, which ultimately drove their research. As the student driven research concluded, students wrote scripts to inform listeners of the various attributes of each region.

Rating: Ideal – Explanation: Students generated questions for research using Padlet. They collaborated while conducting their research by using a template in Google Docs. Students powerfully interacted with the information they acquired by writing scripts in Google Docs, recording their scripts in Tellagami, and combining their video clip on ThingLink.

Communication & Collaboration

Rating: Approaching – Explanation: Students used Padlet and Google Docs to collaborate on their research. They recorded their scripts in Tellagami and used SendAnywhere to transfer from the iPads to the laptop. They used Google Classroom to send their video clips to their teacher so they could be compiled in the class ThingLink for this project.

Critical Thinking & Problem Solving

Rating: Approaching – Explanation: Students generated and responded to questions about their region of Virginia. They used a variety of digital tools to communicate the important features of their region.

Creativity & Innovation

Rating: Ideal – Explanation: Students used the historical aspects of the five regions of Virginia as a basis to generate questions about present day importance of their region. The students developed questions which ultimately drove their research. These new ideas were incorporated into scripts for their avatars. Students chose how many scripts and videos to incorporate into the ThingLink and were only limited by class time.
