Picasso Head Exhibit-15ES301

This lesson is for : Grade 5:

Summary

Students learned about the artist, Pablo Picasso, and the importance of his work
in relationship to 2-D & 3-D models. In todays increasing 3-D technology, students received
an opportunity to incorporate Picasso’s Cubist Style to create their own
masterpiece. Using new technology web tools such as comemories, which is an online gallery
for collecting images and sharing them, and computer applications such as the snip tool, which
is used to capture an image from the computers, students saved their digital
Picasso Head they create using another online tool designed to create Picasso Heads.

The online Picasso heads served as the beginning student research by allowing students
to create their 2-D blue print before creating 3-D clay design. Students used the
slab method and hand-building techniques such as coil, drape, score, and slip to create their
clay Picasso face. After the 3D models were dried and bisque-fired, students used oil
pastels and wash of black India ink.

In conclusion of creating both 2D and 3D models, students informally assessed their original
art using a self reflection writing assignment. Students also received an opportunity
to assess other works of art giving the creator some reflection on their creations in order
to build upon their skills for their next project. Student art were posted online through the use
of Animoto slideshow creator and blog so that students, teachers, parents, and community may visit an online
Picasso exhibit. Google was used to create a site to host this art exhibit and the site shared with
a well known national art museum.
