TIPC Ratings

Developing – Students will be shown example of similar PSA-like projects that have been produced by other students (via Henrico 21 website) as well as professional examples from television. They will be instructed that a PSA is intended to convey messages of importance relating to behavior, health, and co-existence. Emphasis will be placed on a successful PSA having essential elements such as brevity, directness, and clarity of message that are given importance over less essential ingredients (i.e. special effects, comedy, noises, etc.). Students also researched the Seven Habits and Anti-Bullying strategies.

Target – Student final projects will be the result of group collaboration that will require the group to plan and work effectively and directly to produce a final project. They delegated which role each member would play. Student efforts will be shared with the school as well as made available to other schools and parents via the Holladay 5th grade website. Afterwards students reflect on their roles to determine how influential they were with their message.

Approaching – Students addressed an authentic problem (bullying) and used a wide variety of critical thinking skills to design and produce their PSA announcement. They justified their reasons to each other for including various elements.

Approaching – Students are free to determine which technology will best suit their individual project. They may choose a “news report” or ”commercial” genre to relay their message. They may also perform a skit or documentary that can model specific topics or concerns. Students are free to choose what their topic will be and how they can best describe and present the intended lesson or message. Students will decide on what technology they can best engage to best complete a project that succeeds in conveying a message of awareness. They created a unique presentation that was useful for a wide audience.
