Marketing Arena Racing – 8243

Summary

Sports marketing students are challenged to design and organize a real Arena Racing event and create and carry out a full marketing campaign to promote the event. In student selected groups of students form their own committees and assign roles to research sports marketing topics. Committees compile their information into a digital presentation format of choice and deliver the presentations to the class. Committees then select their overall responsibilities and review the rubric and project materials provided by the teacher. Committees collaborate using Google Docs to develop their own mission statements, goals, and objectives and present these for approval prior to taking action. They also perform market analysis, and selected students deliver the overall proposed marketing plan the Teacher and to the school’s Principal.
Students make adjustments to plans as suggested by the teacher and Principal. Once all plans are approved, each committee begins to carry out duties. To advertise, students produce original video, scripts, and sound recordings and utilize facebook, HCPS TV, the school’s website, and even radio station to get the word out. They also plan fund raising outside events, and produce any needed flyers or posters using digital tools. To gain further support, students made community contacts using their own devices. Other committees make contact with outside organizations to obtain the talent needed to organize the events. At intervals students reflect digitally on their progress and their committee’s fidelity to the tasks assigned. On the night of the event, all committees have organized, rehearsed and are ready to produce the show. Afterwards, students reflect on the successes and challenges of the project.

TIPC Ratings

Students conduct research using a combination of digital and written resources to understand the aspects of sports marketing and create a digital presentation to the class. They also use digital resources to conduct further analysis and to create their marketing campaigns. Students present their research – based plans to the Principal and Teacher.

Students produce original messages and use facebook, radio spots, websites, and flyers effectively to advertise and communicate throughout the process. They use their own devices in and out of class to contact sponsors and arrange help and entertainment for the event. Students interact with various professional people and organizations through the process. They presented information and hosted several events including a Spirit Night and a Kick-Off event. To facilitate collaboration, students use Google Docs to share information

Students conduct digital research and review data to make decisions and design an original marketing plan. They present the plan to the Principal and the teacher for feedback and make adjustments. Throughout the process students are presented with financial and other unexpected challenges and are required to come up with viable solutions. They use collaborative documents to share information.

Students produce a variety of original products such as scripts for commercials, slogans, and flyers using cell phones, adobe premiere, moviemaker, and desktop publishing applications. They also decided to write an original rap, record it and publish it on the school’s website. They performed the rap for HCPS TV and were recorded and aired.
