SHAPE America, here we come!

With great anticipation, the time has finally come.  My student teacher, Mr. Gall, and I are headed to Williamsburg, VA to Southern District conference this week.  Southern District is a division of the national SHAPE America organization for Health & Physical Education professionals.  With 50 states in the nation the country is divided into different districts.  State divisions have their own conferences and in the spring the districts have a conference too.  Southern District is comprised of 13 states of the US that are in the south-eastern part (Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Arkansas, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Texas), .  This year Virginia is lucky to be the host state for the Southern District conference, so we can’t miss this opportunity to collaborate and commune with fellow professionals.  I not only will be enjoying meeting new people and gathering new ideas for a great HPE program, but I will be presenting twice!  I’ve got butterflies in my stomach but they’re good butterflies.  I have a session on Thursday morning at 10:30 a.m. that I’ll do by myself, and at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday I’ll get to team teach with some amazing teachers from all across the state.  Both sessions are all about a topic I love; Dance!  Can’t wait to share all the new things I learn. 🙂

  1. Hi MAC,
Thanks for kind words. Loved dancing with you. 🙂
Music can be tricky. Yes, I found a version of Shake Señora on YouTube that someone already created. The clean versions of Pause and Fireball I bought on iTunes, but someone in the Saturday session brought up a good point. You need to know your school community and review ALL of the lyrics of your songs. The innuendos are sometimes overlooked if it is a super popular song that your school community accepts. I clipped out the bridge of DJ Got Us Falling In Love using Audacity or Garage Band (can’t remember which one I used – they’re both very similar). As for bleeping out words or making sound over a phase so that you can use it, I’d suggest that method, but be careful not to post, sell or distribute it or you may be getting into copyright issues.
I hope this helps. Email me directly if you have additional questions at: trhanna@henrico.k12.va.us.

  2. Tammy, loved your sessions this weekend. Thank you for all you do for your students and us, as professionals!

Where can I get clean versions of Pause, Fireball? I know you said something about Garage Band and Audacity…does that mean you clean them up yourself or get them somewhere else…now that I’m typing this I’m remembering something about YouTube…

Thank you and keep on rocking!
    MAC
