Oct. 14-18

Finally we get to celebrate FALL! We are learning about the seasons and taking fall walks. We had a great trip to the Hanover Pumpkin Farm. The students were so excited to pick their own pumpkins! Stay tuned for pictures next week!

In math we are continuing to practice counting to 20 and writing numbers. They love counting. See how high your child can count!

In language arts we are retelling stories using the beginning, middle, and end. We continue to learn letters and sight words each week!

Reminders:

Homework will be sent home on Monday! Remember to play the games sent home, fill out the reading log, and practice rainbow words. I will check Red words Monday and pass out Orange words if your child masters the Red ones. Please continue to read at home with your child.

We are in need of treasures for our treasure chest. If you would like to donate, please send in bouncy balls, bubbles, any small toys, or McDonald toys. Also I will be putting in tickets that the students may pick from. Some examples are: Stinky feet (take your shoes off in the classroom!), Write in pen all day!, Bring a stuffed animal to school day! 10 minutes of extra computer time!   I know the class is going to love these choices when they go to the treasure chest! Also thanks for your donations!

Sept. 30- Oct. 4

Happy October!

The students have enjoyed learning about apples! We have read fiction and nonfiction apple books and predicted what will happen next. In math we have graphed which apple we like best-red, yellow, or green. Ask your child what they thought was the best! On Fun Friday, we cooked applesauce in the class. Yummy! Most students loved the homemade applesauce. We enjoyed using our 5 senses, especially smelling and tasting!

Our field trip is coming up soon! Chaperones have been notified. If you have not heard from me, then you can follow the bus or meet us there. We will send more information closer to the trip.

Today HOMEWORK was sent home in your child’s daily folder. Please read the note that came home attached to it. Your child will receive 2 games to cut and play, a reading log, Raz kids password to sign up at home and read, and RED RAINBOW WORDS to practice. Homework will be sent home every 2 weeks.Please let me know if you have questions about homework!

Sept. 23-27

Happy Fall!

What a fabulous time we have had this week! The children have adjusted and are following routines and rules of the classroom and school. They are eager to learn new letters, sounds, and sight words!

We have finished up the 5 senses and have talked a little about fall, although it doesn’t feel like it yet! Next week we will learn about APPLES and have many fun activities planned to do with apples. PLEASE send an APPLE to school on MONDAY!

We will continue sorting objects in math. We have sorted objects by color, size, and shape. The class was also sorted by boys and girls. Next week we will sort in other fun ways.

Monday, our half day, will also be our first STEAM day of the school year. Parent volunteers are invited to come help out with reading aloud, activities, and crafts from 8:00-9:30am. If you are able to volunteer your time, please let us know by filling out the STEAM Flyer that went home in daily folders.  We are going to have fun with the book Chicka Chicka Boom Boom! Students will listen to the story Chicka Chicka Boom Boom and engineer their own “trees”. We will also be creating a hat, having a letter search and making our own editable coconut trees. It will be loads of fun!

Sept 16-20

We have had a busy week in kindergarten! We are continuing practicing writing our name “The Kindergarten” way with uppercase first, followed by lowercase letters. We are learning new letters and sounds each week along with 3 new sight words.

In math we have finished up with recognizing shapes and describing them. This coming week we will practice sorting shapes by color, size, and shapes.

In science, we have had fun learning about the 5 senses. Today we tasted and described foods that were salty, sweet, bitter, and sour. I was surprised how many loved lemons!! We will finish up 5 senses next week.

We are having a ball in reading and math stations! We  are practicing rotating clockwise to our next station.

The kids are enjoying a little of this fall weather on the way!

This is our 2nd week with our classroom “Positive Behavior Incentive System”.This is the blue sheet in your child’s folder. Please sign this and return on Monday! Students earn stickers for showing our PAW values (perseverance, attitude and work ethic).  When they have earned 5 stickers, they may visit our treasure chest.  At the end of the week, if they have filled up a sticker card, they participate in our “FUN FRIDAY” activity. Today our fun Friday activity was Extra Recess!

On Monday your child will receive a permission slip to Hanover Pumpkin Farm on October 18.  We are allowed 4 chaperones to ride the bus with us. Please let me know if you would like to help and I will get back to you. The costs for students and chaperones is $9 each. Parents are also welcome to meet us there!

Also in your child’s folder will be a blue paper with your child’s Raz-Kids login on it. Raz-Kids is an award-winning resource that provides a library of differentiated books at 29 levels of difficulty students use to practice reading in school, at home, or on the go. Digital and mobile access means that students get the personalized reading practice they need anytime, anywhere. Please fill out the bottom of the sheet if you would like to sign up. The class will be working on Raz-Kids during literacy stations at school and you can continue this practice at home. On the form is your child’s login. I encourage you to sign up!

Sept/ 9-13

Hello families!

Thank you to the grandparents that came to lunch on Grandparent’s Day. The children felt so special and enjoyed this awesome memory!

We have had a wonderful 5 day week in kindergarten! The students are learning routines and procedures. We even did our reading readiness stations with rotations! We learned letters R, T, P, and sight words I, see, red, blue, yellow, green. Wow! We are rolling right along!  In math we learned about shapes and found many different shapes in the classroom! We even wrote shapes in shaving cream and made play dough shapes as well. In social studies, we continue to learn about being good citizens and following rules. The class loved the book “No, David!”. Have your child tell you what things David did in this funny book!

Sept. 3-6

Hello families!

We have had a wonderful first week of kindergarten! The students are adjusting quickly and making many new friends! This week we have been busy learning the rules and procedures of the classroom. We have read many books about school and kindergarten.  Our first day, we went on tour of the school while looking for Pete the Cat! We learned where the cafeteria and office was, as well as where our specials will be held. We got to attend all specials this week such as Guidance, Art, Music, PE, and Library. Today you child was able to check out a library book! How exciting!

We began learning the alphabet and sounds with letter S. We named things that begin with S, including 3 friends whose names begin with S and we added their names to our Word Wall! In social studies we talked about being good citizens and good friends. 

Our favorite books have been the Pete the Cat books this week. We made our very first book and put it in our book baskets! We have danced and learned new songs. Ask your child to sing Pete the Cat’s song! 

 

Today we celebrated our first Fun Friday by making Forkie from Toy Story 4. Forkie will go home on Monday!

A couple of reminders:

Please send Lanyards back to school on Monday! I will be keeping them at school since lunch numbers are on the back.

If you have not sent in Headphones, please do so. We will be using iPads soon in centers and will need them.

Although we have not started homework yet in kindergarten, please read to your child each night. This will benefit your child tremendously!

Welcome to Kindergarten!

Dear Families,

I am so excited to welcome you all to Trevvett. Kindergarten is a time of many firsts for your little ones. I am happy to be a part of their educational journey. Kindergarten holds a very special place in my heart. I have taught my favorite grade for 15 years!  I have 3 grown children of my own and I remember that exciting first day of kindergarten for each of them! Please remember that orientation is scheduled for this Thursday, August 29th, and to meet in the cafeteria. Please feel free to bring your child’s school supplies as well. You will get to visit our room, Room 18. I am so excited to meet each one of you and to be a part of your child’s education!
