READING

April is Poetry Month.  To celebrate we have been learning about and writing various forms of poetry.  Be sure to find your favorite poem to share on Thursday, for the chance to win a prize from the GAES library on Poetry in your Pocket Day.  Vocabulary A-Z is a great resource to prepare for the spelling and vocabulary quizzes.  Please encourage your student to use this resource when studying.  We have started our new novel study, The Phantom Tollbooth.  This book is filled with so much word play!  It is a fun story of a boy who travels to Lands Beyond.  It’s a fun book to read!  We will review inferencing and continue with poetry comprehension.

SCIENCE

We will wrap up our unit on electricity with a quiz on Tuesday, April 27th.  Students should use the notes and study guides in the student resources folder, as well as the fun review sites on the portaportal to prepare for the quiz.   Your student should also have notes in their notebook.  Next, we will explore the solar system.

SOCIAL STUDIES

We will complete our study of the Southwest Region in social studies this week.  Students will be provided a study guide to complete that will help them to prepare for the test.  The completed study guide will be due on May 4th and the test will be on May 5th.
