YUCK!!!! The GERMS are here! We’ve had many friends out over the past two weeks. We’re trying our best to keep everything sanitary and clean to keep those germs at bay. I hope all that have been under the weather are able to rest and recoup over this 3 day weekend. We have missed you!
Benchmark testing is looming near! We will have a semester benchmark test on all materials covered up to this point in Reading and Math. Both tests will be taken over a two day period. Our reading benchmark is scheduled for next week and the math will be taken the week of February 3rd. On testing days be sure that your child has plenty rest, eaten a good breakfast, and is wearing comfy clothes. We’re ready to show what we know!
A LOOK INTO ROOM 8:
Reading- In preparation for benchmark testing, we continued our questioning reading skills. Students learned the importance of reading and understanding different types of functional text, such as recipes, how-to lists, emails/letters, invitations, flyers, etc. This week we used recipes and how-to lists to locate important information and show our understanding of what we read.
Writing- Students enjoyed learning about quotation marks and how authors use dialouge to show characters feelings. After identifing the dialouge and how the characters feelings in the text Honk! The Story of a Prima Swanerina, students created their own stories with characters and dialouge. Encourage your students to share their stories with you this weekend and discuss the dialouge they created with their characters!
Math- This week, we continued our exploration of double digit addition and subtraction with regrouping. Students are learning the importance that place value plays in addition and subracting when digits are being moved back and forth from the tens and ones place to allow for correct adding and subtracting. This concept is often difficult to grasp in the beginning, so we will continue to work on building our confidence with these strategies over the next two weeks. Be sure to head to these sites to help review what is being learned at school. Addition Games Subtraction Games 2 step word problems 1 step word problems
