Welcome to the 2022-2023 School Year
Hello IB Parents and Students,
Welcome to the 2022 – 2023 School Year at Warrior Nation! My name is Mr. Lyndaker and I am thrilled to be the new Coordinator of the International Baccalaureate Program at Henrico High School. I have been teaching at Henrico High School for the last ten years and proudly taught the IB Psychology class for the previous six years. I look forward to working with you all to make this a very successful school year for our IB Warriors. I’m excited to meet the students this Thursday at community day and in the following weeks as we start the school year!
We have many exciting things planned for this year and our focus will be to build an academic culture of inclusiveness and accountability. I will communicate events, deadlines, and announcements through many different methods such as emails, phone calls, social media, and direct information to students. As we move forward together into the new school year, I invite you to call or schedule a visit with me any time that you have a question regarding your child’s progress.
Please join me this year by supporting our students and teachers in their efforts to create true IB learners. IB learners work to acquire the skills, values, and knowledge to make sense of and succeed in the world around them. This is not always an easy journey, but I truly believe that the IB program here at Henrico High School supports and prepares our students to be incredibly successful global citizens beyond our classrooms!
I truly consider it an honor and privilege to be the IB Coordinator for our Warriors and I look forward to a fantastic school year!
Sincerely,
Greg Lyndaker
IB Coordinator
Henrico High School

STATUE HONORS IB’S PLACE AT HHS
On Thursday, June 23, artist Alexandra Haller, IB class of 2016, installed her statue in honor of HHS IB program on the grounds. The statue, a globe of reclaimed metal, has as its heart the profile logo of the IB Learner Profile. This statue is the culmination of long years of dreams and fund-raising. Around the base of the statue will be planted lilies, Stella d’oro which celebrate our green and gold, in memory of Caroline Lily Knotts, also in the class of 2016, who lost her life in a tragic accident. The statue honors HHS’s IB history since 1995 and welcomes students to our newly expanded program, making HHS a genuine IB World School.
Grad Does Great!
Ashley Brown, 2016 HHS and IB grad, graduated from VCU with Summa Cum Laude honors back in December 2020 with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. She also graduated from the XC/Track & Field team with 3 championship medals, 4 championship rings, and a school record under her belt, although her final outdoor season was cut off because of the pandemic. She immediately entered a master’s program in engineering management through Kennesaw State University online, and she will be graduating this upcoming May! She is greeted from graduation with a full-time position with General Electric Aviation, where she interned for 3 summers, under their Operations Management Leadership Program.
Any IB students interested in her major or in VCU, please contact Ms. Terry, who can share Ashley’s contact info.

HHS IB Students in the News!
A group of Henrico high-schoolers are sharing their passion for STEM with elementary and middle school students around the world through their organization STEM Z.
Sriya Darsi, Vivek Bachhu and Sahithi Sarva, all seniors at Henrico High School, first found their passion for STEM back when they attended Moody Middle School and participated in the Metro Richmond STEM Fair.
Congratulations Mock Trial Team!
Congrats to the Henrico High School mock trial team, which placed second at the recent major international “Empire Mock Trial” competition! The Henrico team was the only team from Virginia selected to participate. The students competed in five trials at the end of September and came close to winning the entire competition. Junior Aahil Pallath was named the second best attorney out of all Empire Mock Trial competitors. Empire team members are: Nia Boyd, Kaeo Burgess, Layla Childress, Faith Dixon, Sevashtiana Emile, Aahil Pallath, Rochan Sonti, Shaan Patel, Srinithi Venkatesan, Samyuktha Venkatraman. Want to watch the team’s big day? Go to https://www.facebook.com/EmpireFamily/videos/878181422901113.”This is a great continuation of the success of last year’s team, which was crowned the state champion in March 2021,” said Kristin Walinski, the team’s coach. “Only one of those students is still competing, while the others graduated. This was supposed to be a rebuilding year, but we are way ahead of schedule.” We wouldn’t be where we are without the tremendous support of our teacher-sponsor, Greg Lyndaker, and the school administration, including Rob Welch and Karin Castillo-Rose.” You can also find out more about the competition at https://empiremocktrial.org/. Empire Mock Trial aims to educate students by giving them the opportunity to:- Acquire knowledge and build skills fundamental to citizenship.- Learn about the inner workings of the legal system and bedrock Constitutional principles, such as due process and the presumption of innocence.- Learn how to separate fact from opinion and how to craft a compelling argument.- Study pressing issues of our time and consider how our laws interact with them, such as white nationalism and police brutality.- Learn how to speak publicly, think critically, argue extemporaneously and collaborate effectively by preparing and litigating their case.
HHS IB Parent Information Meetings
Tonight, 10/6, we hold two information meeting for parents of HHS IB students and HHS parents who are interested in their child participating in IB. If you missed it, here are the presentations:
MYP
DP/CP
HCPS Specialty Center Info Sessions
Tonight, October 4, is the first of three HCPS Specialty Center Info Sessions. These sessions will be virtual this year. You can find the links to attend at https://henricoschools.us/specialty-centers/, where they will be posted today. The event is designed to first give you an overall understanding of the application process and introduce all the centers. After this opening session, students and parents may attend three 15-minute “break out” sessions to learn more about those centers. Obviously, there are more than three centers, so you may also want to attend the two additional sessions on Wednesday, October 13, and Wednesday, October 20.
Learn about Henrico HS IB and JR Tucker HS IB:
To learn more about Henrico HS and any other center, please attend our Open House. HHS IB Open House is Monday, November 1 at 7 pm.
Tariq’s Garden
Tariq is now a junior DP course student, but he has this to say about his MYP Personal Project and the impact doing it had on his life: “I actually did my personal project that I made freshman year. Which was creating a community garden to support communities in poverty that have access to organic produce. We have donated over 30 pounds of food thus far. Here are some pictures of the garden and some of the volunteers that helped my vision come to life. This garden was also created in a low income community. I want to thank Ms.Biddle because I did this in covid and I felt like I would not have had the power to do this without the work my freshman year in seminar and english with personal project assignments. It felt so good to make an impact and to help feed people especially in trying times that we are in now. I love what I do know and making an impact is a part of me. It was initially just a plan I made on paper for a grade and I turned it into a reality and I wanted to share the finished project with you. PS: on this journey I learned a lot about food security.”
