HAPPY SPRING BREAK!

If you are traveling this week, please travel safely! I will miss everyone a lot!

This week we had a lot of FUN!! On Monday, we had JA in a Day! Junior Achievement partnered up with volunteers to teach students important lessons about being an entrepreneur! We got to simulate some business strategies and students learned valuable lessons about quality ideas, revenue, losses, and unexpected problems in business. Ask them how their hot dog stand played out.

On Tuesday, we got to listen to a speaker about Wildlife Conservation. He showed students some animals and discussed adaptations. We also prepared for our STEAM project by learning about Henderson Island and the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. Ask them what they know about these places!!

Wednesday we had CAREER DAY! Students got to rotate through three stations of potential careers in their field of interest. Mrs. Bushey worked hard to determine these with surveys for each student. This created a custom experience for EACH STUDENT! If you see Mrs. Bushey, make sure to tell her thank you for all her hard work!

We also spent Wednesday at the James River Association field trip! We got to take a boat ride to discuss different characteristics of species of fish living in the water and how the environment affects the water and in turn what animals live in the river .We got to catch and hold fish before releasing them back into the river. We also had the opportunity to study the endangered Atlantic Sturgeon and to explore native and invasive species of plants located on the island.

Friday we worked to research more about the Great Pacific Garbage Patch and create self-portraits to reflect how the garbage patch made us feel. To make these portraits, we collected and used recyclable materials. This was not only to show the amount of waste we produce, but also to find a create way to repurpose our trash and keep it from the patch.
