Review: Act of Valor

by David Stodulski

“Act of Valor,” co-directed by Mike McCoy and Scott Waugh, provides great explosive action scenes but nothing to fill the gaps in between. The military and their families may appreciate “Act of Valor” although viewers looking for good dialogue and unexpected plot twists will leave theaters disappointed.

Working with a limited budget, the production team used real ammunition and explosives in the movie. The United States Navy provided training sites and insight into the battlefield experience of the Navy Seals. The Navy, in return for its help, decided what to keep in or cut out of the movie. To make a better motion picture, the Navy should have cut everything except for the action scenes.

Active US Navy Seals perform in the roles of the main characters, and their performances are superb; however, the character development falls short because of the script writing.

Despite boring parts of the movie, it still inspires a feeling of patriotism. The movie’s theme involves sacrificing oneself for the good of everyone. This movie is a tribute to the men and women who sacrifice their lives for the good of our country. Anyone who loves a good action film or knows someone defending our country can find something to enjoy in “Act of Valor.” Just don’t expect it to win the Oscar for best picture.
